Flashcards › Short Answers

which is more complex --- a single celled organism or a human cell? Why? often a single celled organism is more complex because it carries out all of its life functions in a single. why can a single celled organism never grow large? it would not able to sustain itself because diffusion would not work across large distances. what is a metabolic pathway? a series of chemical reactions that breaks down or makes materials a cell needs. what would happen if enzymes stoped working? cells would die because without enzymes the process in the cell would be slow to support life. Define passive and active transport within cells, and give an example of each. passive transport requires no energy from the cell. example -- diffusion-- active transport -- requires the cell to use energy.-- example when a cell uses proteins to more sodium and potasium across the cell membrane. what are mitosis and meosis, and how are they different? mitosis is the division of a cell into 2 identical daughter cells by the duplication of cromozones and then divisions.meosis results in cells that contain 1/2 of the cromozones material duplicates 2 times. what does the cell theory state? all living things are composed of 1or more cells.all the chemical reactions occur within its cells and all cells come from other cells. what are the differences between a plant and an animal cell? a plant cell has chloroplast. an animal cell has flagela.
