What are addends? Two numbers you add together. What is a sum? Answer of two numbers added together. What are factors? Two numbers you mulitpliy. What is a product? Answer of two numbers mulitplied together. What is a dividend? A number being separated into a certain number of equal groups. It is the number you are dividing into in a divsion problem. What is a divisor? Number you are dividing by in a division problem. What is a quotient? Answer to a division problem. What is The Commutative (Order) Property of Addition? Changing the order of the addends does not change the sum. Example: a + b = b + a or 3 + 4 = 4+ 3 What is The Commuataive (Order) Property of Mulitplication? Changing the order of the factors does not change the product. Example: ab = ba or 5 x 4 = 4 x 5. What is The Associative (Grouping) Property of Addition? Changing the order of three or more addends does not change the sum. Example: (a + b) + c = a + (b + c) or (6 + 2) + 7 = 6 + (2 + 7) What is The Associative (Grouping) Property of Mutlipliation? Changing the grouping of three or more factors does not change the prodcut. Example: (a x b) x c = a x (b x c) or (8 x 3) x 7 = 8 x (7 x 3) What is The Identity Property of Addition? Adding zero to any number does not change the number. Exxample: a + 0 = a or 9 + 0 = 9 What is The Identity Property of Mulitplication? Multiplying any number by 1 does not change the number. Example: a x 1 = a or 575 x 1 = 575 What is The Zero Property of Multiplication? The product of any number and zero is zero. Example: a x 0 = 0 or 892 x 0 = 0 What is The Inverse Property of Addition? Adding the opposite (additive inverse) of a number to the number will give you a sum of zero. Example: a + (-a) = 0 or 14 + (-14) = 0 What is The Inverse Property of Multiplication? If you multipluy a number by its recirpocal (multiplicative inverse) the prodoucy is 1. Example: a x 1/a = 1 or 9 x 1/9 = 1 What is The Distributive Property of Mulitplication Over Addition? Multiplying the sum of two numbers by a thrid number is the same as multiplying each of the two numbers by that third number and adding the prodcut. Example: a x (b + c) = (a x b) + (a x c) or 2 x (6 + 4) = ( 2 x 6) + (2 x 4) Name The Property: (5 x 3) x 7 = 3 x (5 x 7) Associative Property Of Multiplication Name The Property: 5(7 + 9) = (5 x 7) + (5 x 9) Distributive Property Name The Property: 62.4 + 0 = 62.4 Identity Property Of Addition Name The Property: 0 x 4 = 0 Zero Property Of Multiplication Name The Property: 2.61 + 92.7 = 92.7 + 2.61 Commutative Property Of Addition Name The Property: 15 x 9 = 9 x 15 Commutative Property Of Addition Name The Property: 4 x 1/4 = 1 Inverse Property Of Multiplication Name The Property: (8 + 9) + 2 = 9 + (8 + 2) Associative Proerpty Of Addition Name The Property: 6 x 1 = 6 Identity Property Of Multiplication Name The Property: 8 + (-8) = 0 Inverse Property Of Addition Name The Property: 6(4 + 2) = (6 x 4) + (6 x 2) Distributive Property Name The Property: 0 + 90 = 90 Identity Property Of Addition Name The Property: 5 x 0 = 0 Zero Property Of Mulitplication Name The Property: 62 + 9 = 9 + 62 Commutative Property Of Addition Name The Property: 1/3 x 3 = 1 Inverse Property Of Mulitplication Name The Property: 12 + (8 + 7) = 8 + (12 + 7) Assocaitive Propety Of Addition Name The Property: 1 x 8 = 8 Identity Property Of Multiplication Name The Property: (-10) + 10 = 0 Inverse Property Of Addition Name The Property: 12 x (2 x 4) = 2 x (12 x 4) Associative Property Of Mulitplication Name The Property: 6 x 4 = 4 x 6 Commutative Property Of Mulitplication Review Flashcards For Properties Quiz
